O FOR LIGHT

I altered a hardback non fiction book one page per day, using collage to depict the sky that I could see.  I also left words on the page uncovered creating a blackout/erasure poem. My collage materials were things at hand: the linings of used envelopes, the magazine from the Sunday paper,  some painted scrap papers and occasionally tippex or marker pens, I even made my own rice glue, replenishing it every few days before it went off. Each day I was faced with new words on the page and also a new sky to observe.  The words that I left on the page fit into a few categories: a reflection of the day’s news of the ongoing pandemic, comments on the weather, my mood or something that appealed to me that day. Some pages were more of a challenge than others, chapter heading pages especially. The book turned into a sculptural object. The title ‘O for light’ was altered from the original title of the book.
