100 DAYS OF GILDED FINDS
I have always had a propensity to collect and curate.
Walks inevitably involve me coming home and emptying my pockets of keepsakes - emerald coloured ghost net, teeny pine cones, lichen covered sticks, ochre beach stones, fractal shells, decaying flowers narrating the passage of time. Some sit proudly on the shelf, while others are placed in baskets and boxes to be appreciated in another moment for their unique beauty. All hold their own story of time, people and place.
For my 100 day project I decided to celebrate the beauty of the found object by gilding 100 treasures with gold. I went off-piste now and again by introducing inky gold abstracts and sewing meditations but this kept it alive for me and the whole project was a joy to create and curate. I hope it might bring you some joy too.
